why do people think that Disney=children's entrainment?

Guys don't hate on musical outbursts! I love them! I wish life was like that... xD

Anyway, Disney movies are for kids, just because... they are. I can't really pinpoint it exactly.

But it's not to say adults can't enjoy them.

well, all i can say is to me, Disney is really a family company, most or all films here are rated U or Uc (meaning everyone can watch and Uc is suitable for littler children) but my honest opinion i feel that they aim more towards children with some stories, you know fairy tails, and stuff like Lion King that isn't a fairy tail.

So really it's half and half of you think about it really, some films are for children and some are for older or whatever, when i was a little girl back in the good ol' 90s i used to love Disney Princesses, now that i am 20 i am more interested in stuff like the Lion King.

and so, that's my 2 pence on that! =P

Just a "did you know" moment... ...did you guys know that "Pretty Woman" is a "Disney" movie?

It's distributed by Touchstone Pictures which is owned by Disney.

the movie Ella Enchanted has nothing in common expect names of characters and the title itself. Its 5x as scary as the book.

I didn't say it had to have anything in common...I said it's based off "Cinderella". She loses her mother, then her father, is left with her step-mother and two step-sisters. Is forced (I know...in this case it's because of a spell/gift) to do what she's told, meets the prince and ends up marrying him in the end.

Sounds like a "Cinderella" based movie to me. Obviously there are going to be differences, but the premise of the movie is a Cinderella story.

Its NOTHING in common with Ella Enchanted expect for the fact that both girls are under an enchanted curse. It shouldn't even be called Ella Enchanted it should be called "What Ella enchanted shouldn't be." Since it has nothing in common with either the book or the oringal Cinderella story.

the book Ella Enchanted IS based upon Cinderella..but that's it. the movie isn't. Even people are IMBd have a fit it has nothing in common with the book.

Eh, do you know "Once more, with feeling"? It was a... um.. musical special from the tv series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" . The whole town was under a spell, everybody started to sing out of the blue like in a musical....

I think life was originally meant to have musical outbursts and it just didn't make it into the final release. But I'm sure God will patch it in later, and then future generations will be like, "I can't even imagine life without musical outbursts now. That must've felt so boring and incomplete." Except they'd sing it and it would rhyme and be awesome.

I don't know any children that find Disney movies "scary".

I think it's because a lot of kids watch them
So everybody assumes it's for kids

why do people think that Mulan is going to be a geishia in "Bring Honour to us all?" Or why do they think the film promoates pro-gay/lesbian?

Yes but the so-called "geshia" make-up and clothing orignated in China first. Just because she's in white make-up doesn't her a geshia. Would people called Elizabeth I a geisha just because she wore white make up?

You just sort of answered your own question. Why do people refer to her as a geisha in that scene? Because people associate the white face and clothing to a geisha (not saying they're right, just assuming what they must be assuming), and she's going to go see "the matchmaker".

That would be like calling Elizabeth I a geshia since during the time she was alive she (but only because I think she got smallpox) and other noble ladies wore white makeup. I mean its just it wasn't until the 20s here in North America that tan skin got fashionable.

No it wouldn't. I'm sure there are other things contributing to people thinking Mulan was a geisha other than the white makeup...like the clothing, the hair and the fact she was going to see "the matchmaker" etc.

Now if Elizabeth I were to do all those things as well, then yes I can see how some would argue she was dressing up as a geisha, but not solely because she was wearing white makeup. Mulan is wearing much more than just white makeup to help support the argument that she was a geisha (not that I agree she was a geisha).

If Elizabeth I were to wear white makeup and and powder white wig, would I say she's a geisha because the only comparison she had was the white makeup on? No. Comparing Elizabeth I to a Geisha just because she wore the white makeup is silly since there was/is no other "decorations" she wore to support the idea she was dressing up as a geisha.

That's like saying since Clown's wear white makeup they must be geisha's.

excatly my point. But up ontil the 20s the pale skin was fashionable. since working outside=peasant.

I never said they were right. I just said that I believe that i why they think she is. But if you don't know much about the asian cultures I understand that it's easy to isjudge her a geisha. I mean she have geisha makeup, chinese geisha clothing, the geisha umbrealla, the hair decorations and so on. Easy peasy to misjudge.

What is so interesting about the Disney Hercules?..its so.. Westernised. But mom really wants to see it.

once you start thinking about fairy tales in general have a lot of what's the word? crimes of some sort or another.
