Does EA encourage or discourage mods?
Someone on the offical is trying to claim that EA discourage mods like Twaillian's mods. But if that was true why would EA have let us have mod folder which I know were not there when the base game was released.

Re: Does EA encourage or discourage mods?
Well, I saw the thread...If I remember correctly, we had to add the mod folder, we always had to add the mod folder. It wasn't there to begin with, nor did it ever come with any new Ep's, Sp's or patches/updates, but the fact we were able to add it and have it work with the game:
This sort of proves that (this is from tutorial back in 2009):
There are a few things that you need before you can start downloading custom content. The first, are two folders. Navigate to your Sims 3 Root folder, to get here, follow this path:
• C:/Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3
Once you are there, right click, and create a new folder called Mods
http://slinkyscrap.wordpress.com/sims-3-custom-content-sites/how-to-install-custom-content/
anyway....the fact we were able to add teh mod folder tells me that they don't really encourage it, but they definitely don't discourage us from using them. I would say they are more open and supportive of us modifying our games how we want, but it's sort of a "gamer beware" sort of thing.
As far as what that person said, yes I found the thread you're talking about (it would be really helpful if you would link to these threads...you'd get better response from other users if we can actually see what is going on and not have to go search for it )...EA asks if you're using mods/CC because a lot of people believe that if the issue is the mod/CC that EA will fix it. That's not to say that they hate mods/CC. I remember seeing a thread once a long time ago that stated that EA supports the use of third party mods/CC, but it's to the users discretion. They have also stated that by using third party content the user realizes that the content may "damage" (glitches etc.) the game and that the user takes full responsibility in doing so,....
Simply put, they support the user's choice whether they choose to use third party content, but will not support in fixing the issue if the third party content is to blame for the game messing up since the content is not their own. They ask if you have any of that third party content to get a better understanding of where the issue is coming from (the third party content, or the game itself). Not because they hate the third party content.

Well, ummm. That is very outdated bru. You're not supposed to use the Program Files way anymore, and if someone is, their CC shouldn't even be showing up, but the Helper Monkey would like break the game.

Re: Does EA encourage or discourage mods?
I know that. She said in the thread, that she's talking about in the OP, that we got the mods folder added in a update/patch. That was my proof that even back in 2009 we had to put the mod folder in ourselves.
If you search mod folder for sims 3 and go back far enough, you can find lots of tutorials (from back in 2009) on how to add the mod folder to your sims 3 root folder (the old way). That was my point. I was just using one that I found as an example, not that I was suggesting anyone set up their mod folder that way.
See, this is why, Anne, I said you should link us to the thread. Since Miktiger didn't understand that I was replying to your thread here about something said there.
