The Recommending Thread
I never liked the recommending system on the officials.
Please use this thread to recommend things - anything from CC, Tutorials, Sims, Lots, Patterns, etc! Perhaps even a whole website or studio.
Maybe there's something you use all the time, or something that's helped you in the past. Post them here to recommend them to other people
(Please don't recommend things that you haven't tried in game as you can't really recommend it if you haven't used it!)
When posting, state what sort of creation it is (sim etc) whether it has CC (if applicable), why you recommend it and, of course, the link! If you agree with someone else's recommendation, simply quote the part of their post with the details.
Tutorial
Roofing 101 by Socaldkl at the EA forums (Part 1 and 2)
Reason for recommending: I always found it hard to put a roof on a house and actually make it look good! This tutorial goes step by step through many different kinds of roof and is really good for beginner builders or those who have been building a long time but have never been satisfied with their roof skills
Link: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/375222.page
The link to part 2 is in the first post.
CC - Default Replacements
Facial Hair by RoboKitty
Reason for recommending: These facial hairs are SUCH an improvement on the EA ones. They are blended so well and actually look like facial hair! There are many different types of them so a simmer can pick and choose which styled they think they will use. Instead of making your male sims look less attractive like the EA facial hair, they definitely enhance a sim's look. They do replace the EA facial hair, but after trying them I bet you'd never want to go back to the EA hair again!

Re: The Recommending Thread
What a great idea Caturae! I too hate the recommending system on the officials. People miss the point of a "recommendation". How can you recommend something you may never have used???? What if it has bad CC and you recommend it? Then you're recommending people to use it with that bad CC. This is why I don't recommend on the officials (well, at least not often). Users see it more as a popularity contest than what they intended it to be used for.
Also a great way to find stuff you may not have known about.
Tutorial
Landscaping parts 1 and 2 by Allium
Great tutorial for anyone that has never landscaped their lots or are just lost with what/how to do so.
Part 1 "Tools of the Trade" teach the reader about size proportion (lot size etc.), tools, how to create a realistic looking fence, flooring that can be use outside, how to raise terrain and more.
Part 1
http://www.thesims3.com/contentDetail.html?contentId=164869
Part 2 "Creating Gardens" teach the reader how put all the tools you learned from Part 1 how to work together. From mapping out your yard/garden, plant/tree placement and what kind of garden works with what type of house to how to create a nice walkway/path.
Part 2

Blog
Camille
I love love love this blog. If you like shabby chic items and pretty patterns this is definitely the blog to go to! I get most of my CC from her. 90% of my patterns are from her. I love the cute country look to her stuff. Never have I downloaded a bad/corrupted item from her and she converts other items as well as links you to her favorite items/creators/blogs. I think she also takes house building requests (not sure though)...she has pictures of houses (none that are for download and some say "so-and-so's house" or "house for so-and-so"). Just a lovely little site.

Great idea!
I have nothing to recommend right now, because I can't think of anything

CC- Default Replacements
Two things I can't live without are my default replacement skins and eyes. Lets start with skin.
I can't get enough of Aikea's skin for males and females, child through elder. It's not too shiny, like Peggy's or Ephemera's, but not dull like Tamo's. The facial shading is amazing to me and I've created some really beautiful sims with it. I think my favorite part would be the back of the female skin. The upper back and butt are really well shaded. My one gripe is the male nipples. They seem a little off somehow, but I can't really place how, exactly. Click the photo to get to the download.
Now for part two: My default eyes.
Breyete's eyes just really make my sims pop, I think. They're extremely realistic and unlike some other default eyes, can take on any color and still retain their high detail level. I do keep a few contacts, to liven things up, but mostly, I stick with my tried and true defaults.

That is great and would definitely recommend it to others too! I have always sucked at landscaping, I am definitely going to make use of them when I next renovate a house! I am also still checking out Camille's blog
And Kels I am trying the eyes, I have seen them around before and it's about time I tried something new.
I have a skin to recommend too, but it is hosted at MTS and it seems to be down at the moment
In the meantime,
Story
Boys2Men
I don't read too many Sim stories, but I found this one a while ago and it has kept me captivated ever since! It's quite long now as the writer updates regularly but it's a very good read. I especially love the character design.

They do take some getting used to. I had trouble adjusting from Shady's Multicolor eyes to Breyete's Miss L, but after a while, I figured out the right way to use them. I'm fairly certain that they also come as contacts, so you could start with using those occasionally and work your way along. Might be an easier transition.

Re: The Recommending Thread
I do really like them and will use them in future, but there is one thing that bothers me :/ When you move the colour slider to pale grey, the eyes don't appear pale grey but have a yellowy tint (especially noticable in vampires)
That's my only gripe, otherwise I love them!!
CC - Default Skin
Matt Default Skin by -shady-
Reason for Recommending: I love this skin for a few reasons -
1. It isn't shiny AT ALL (hence why it is called matt)
2. The level of anatomical detail is just right, so it works with the muscle sliders and looks right on any sim
3. The skin looks qually as good on male sims as it does on females. On a lot of skins that I tried, the males ended up looking very girly because of the shading on the skin.
4. The shading around the noses. This might seem a really strange thing to like... but so many other skins just fall flat when it comes to noses - they almost look like a lump of clay has been stuck to the face. The definition of the nose on ths skin is excellent.

Extra photos if you want them that show the skin:

I don't know what the skins look like without the nomosaic mod (as I don't have it) so if anyone is concerned about that then they'll have to try it out themselves!!
